What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is guided hypnosis. It is a trance-like state of focus and concentration achieved with the help and guidance of a clinical hypnotherapist. This trance-like state is achieved when two minds come together to focus on the same thing. It is similar to being completely absorbed in a book, film, song, or even one's own thoughts or meditations. When in this state, one can turn their attention completely inwards, utilising the natural resources deep within which can help make changes and regain control in certain areas of their life.

Unlike many other types of therapy, Solution Focused Hypnotherapyuses a specific structure, which incorporates several aspects of Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). This uses a combination of powerful solution-focused discussions, followed by encouraging a relaxing trance state; this enables the ideas and solutions discussed to be explored and utilised by the brain for positive benefit.  Sessions are performed in a calm, therapeutic environment. Unlike the dramatic portrayals of hypnosis on TV or on stage, you will not be unconscious, asleep, or lose control of yourself in any way.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy also differs as there is no requirement for the therapist to ‘dig into’ and dissect a client’s past. This is not necessary to help the client formulate positive actions and plans to move forward in their lives.
